Simple Trick to Strong Passwords

Each website or online service requires a password. Different websites have different rules to passwords. If you want to use the same password everywhere then you might end up tweaking your password for each website. Passwords do expire and you are forced to come out with new passwords and sometimes they make it even more hard by not allowing users to use passwords they have used before. The end result is total confusion. I understand that using the same password everywhere is risky but as long as you are online then you are in continuous risk. Change your password every few months with a strong format then mostly you will be fine. The challenge is how to invent new passwords and how to memorize them. Here is a simple formula and I do not claim it is a new idea. Actually people use this technique to remember things.

  1. Think of a series of names for example your name, wife and kids or names of planets or whatever you want.
  2. Take the first letter of each word
  3. Make the first character a capital letter
  4. Add 4 numbers at the end of the password that represent the year of birth of someone you know
  5. Change the last number by adding a shift producing special character

Here is an example

  1. Let us take a series of words for predators for example Lion Tiger Jaguar Cheetah Leopard
  2. Take the capital letter of the first word and the first character of the rest of the words. We end up with Ltjcl
  3. Let us say the birth of year of someone you know is 1990
  4. Shift + the last letter is Shift + 0 = )
  5. So the final password is Ltjcl199)

As you can see, we can produce the password with the length we are comfortable with. The password has capital and small letters, numbers and special characters. This format is hard to crack and easy to remember. You remember your password by saying Capital of the first letter of Lion then the first letter of Tiger, Jaguar, Cheetah and Leopard plus the birth date of someone you know and the last letter is combined with a shift.

Enjoy
